The
5,000-mile gray whale migration from the frigid waters of
Alaskas Bering Sea to the warm water lagoons of the
Baja Peninsulathe longest known mammal migration in
the worldhas long attracted our attention. For years,
these great animals had been hunted nearly to extinction
and have just barely survived as a species. Now, visitors
can journey to see these magnificent creatures and experience
one of the worlds most memorable wildlife adventures.
Experienced tour providers will bring you to their uniquely
situated Whale Cabanas, exclusive accommodations
set on the shores of Baja's warm water lagoons: San Ignacio
Lagoon, Scammon's Lagoon or Magdalena Bay. You'll enjoy
the comfort of thatched bungalows or clean rustic camps
at night and by day, your group will travel by small boats
called "pangas" into the lagoon where hundreds
of gray whales come to breed and give birth. Of all the
natural experiences in the world, you'll never forget a
close encounter with a gentle, 30-ton animal with baby in
tow!
